1) Make food choices with the goal of less packaging. It's important to select foods that utilize little or no packaging, particularly avoiding plastic because the enviromental cost of plastic is sky-high.
2) It may be possible for you to reuse water from bathing, and wahsing clothes and doshes, to irrigate outdoor plants. Research regulation and recommendations for greywater reuse for your particular area.
3) If you have a solid-fuel stove, make sure you don't block all drafts from the room. Leave a window or door slightly open because thease types of stoves require some air circulation in order to burn efficently.
4)Choose bamboo for window blinds, flooring, and other household items. Bamboo is a great green choice because it is fat growing, sustainable, and grows without the use of pesticides or fertlizers.
5)Use a damp cloth to work white (non-gel) toothpaste into any silver you want to polish, the rinse and dry. The mild abrasive in toothpastewill make silver shine without the need for chemical cleaners.
6) Recycle plastic! Before you put plastic bottles in the recycling bin, think of ways that you could use them around the house. For example, you can cut off the ends of water bottles and use them as protective coverings around seedlings.
7) Use ceiling fans. Ceiling fans can reduce AC costs by as much as 40% in the summer, but can also save energy in the winter by keeping cool air from staying on the floor.
8)To get rid of cockroaches without using poison, caulk all the cracks along baseboards, shelves, cabinets, and around pipes and plumbing fixtures. Make a poison free trap. Grease the inner surface of the neck of a bottle, and put a little stale beer or a raw potato inside. It will catch them in a jiffy!
9) Always buy recycled tiolet paper. You only have to use it once before disposing of it, so it doesn't have to be the very best quality.
10) Why not make it a family rule not to flush the toilet at night? It sounds disgusting, but it could help the enviroment. This way you'll save water and you won't be making noise to disturb the slumber of yur family members.
